Adoption Centers

Our cageless adoption centers are what set us apart from other shelters when we started in 1971— and still serve as a model for humane colony cat housing today. Our clean, bright, home-away-from-home for our cats are located in two of Chicago’s most interesting neighborhoods.

We do everything possible to maintain a clean and healthy, homelike environment for our residents. Vertical space and plentiful perches, cubbies, scratching posts, toys and other forms of enrichment, ensure that our cats and kittens are as healthy and happy as possible until they find their forever homes.

For more than 40 years we have revolutionized the sheltering of cats and have led the way for the countless groups who have visited us to learn how we run a cageless, no-kill shelter. We are proud of all we’ve done to make life better for homeless cats in Chicago and across the country.

When you visit our three-story home at 1212 W. Carmen Avenue in Chicago’s funky and diverse Uptown neighborhood (home to approximately 170 cats), or our converted luxury loft at 1629 N. Ashland Avenue in the family-friendly and bustling Bucktown neighborhood (home to approximately 60 cats), you can take as much time as you need to visit all of the cats in the various colony rooms. You should plan on spending at least 30 – 60 minutes to meet all of the cats, and another 30 – 60 minutes to do paperwork and to allow for our clinic to do a “check out” exam before you bring you new friend home.
