The Adoption Process

People often ask us why we take our adoption process so seriously. The answer is simple - our goal is not to adopt out the highest number of cats, but to place each cat in a loving home where he or she will live for his or her entire life. Our adoption counselors work very hard to match each potential adopter with the cat who will best fit into his or her lifestyle. We feel that working hard to make the perfect feline/human match gives our wonderful cats a better chance of finding a permanent, loving home.

Tree House provides a cageless, home-like environment for the many shelter residents. After initial examination and treatment in the clinic, a new arrival is transferred to one of the Admission and Isolation Units in the lower level. Next, the newcomer is introduced to the general population by means of spacious enclosures.

Trained adoption counselors interview prospective adopters to understand their needs, and then adopters are escorted to the Adoption Floor to choose their future friend. Adopters are encouraged to take as much time as they need to find a cat. All adoption applications stay on file for three months so please don't feel that you need to rush to choose a companion cat right away.

Your adoption fee of $85 covers the cost of one cat's care ($150 for two cats) at Tree House including: spay or neuter, deworming, flea treatment, FIV and FeLV testing, AVID microchip, veterinary examination, and all necessary vaccinations. We also give a 30-day health guarantee on all of our adoptions.

Even when cats leave Tree House, they are considered part of the Tree House family for the rest of their lives. We make follow up calls on all of the adoptions, and are available to answer any questions from the adopter. We expect a Tree House adopter to provide a committed and loving home for the duration of the cat's life. If you experience difficulties with your Tree House cat you can ALWAYS contact us for behavior counseling and general feline care advice. If you are no longer able to provide care for your Tree House cat, we will accept him or her back into the Tree House family, regardless of reason.

For more information about adoption, please call 773-784-5488 ext. 235 or email the THHS Adoption Center.
