🚨 Breaking News: Tree House’s very own Teensy 🚨 Breaking News: Tree House’s very own Teensy Weensy and Dr. P spotted on WGN9! 🚨

With Halloween around the corner, we’re on a mission to debunk those urban legends that keep sweet cats, like Teensy Weensy, from finding loving homes during this time of year. At Tree House, we’re celebrating National Black Cat Day today and every day, knowing that adopting all animals year-round gives them the best chance at their Happy Ending Tail.

But it’s no superstition that pets may be easily spooked during the Halloween festivities. Keep the scaries away this weekend with a few simple tricks and treats:

🎃 Secure the Door: Keep pets away from escape points during trick-or-treat hours, and ensure pets are wearing collars with ID tags in case of a dash.
👻 Comfy Costumes: Soft, vest-style outfits that fasten around the chest or waist are best! When in doubt, watch your pet’s body language to gauge their comfort.
🔮 Distraction Wins: Use food puzzles or toys to keep pets happily occupied. P.S. - The pets love treats, too!
⚠️ Hidden Hazards: Keep candy out of reach. Chocolate, raisins, macadamia nuts, and xylitol (found in sugar-free candy and gum) are toxic to pets.

If you missed Dr. P and Teensy Weensy, you can watch their segment at our link in bio!

Shadowheart and Honeybee might not have started as Shadowheart and Honeybee might not have started as a bonded pair, but somewhere along the way, they’ve become the best of friends. 👯‍♂️💕

While they came to us at different times, they lucked out and headed off to their Happy Ending Tails together! ☘️ Shadow wasted no time claiming laps and hearts, while Bee took her time to bloom into a courageous, nuzzle-loving sweetie pie. 🥧

These two can be found peering out the windows to watch birds and pups pass by. 🐥🐶 Of course, with the calm comes the chaos of playtime wrestling matches—usually initiated by unsuspecting Honeybee! 🍯

Every great friendship starts with a little leap of faith, and these two dove right in. Their adopter couldn’t be happier, and honestly, neither could we! 😍

Meet Lime Spindrift! This confident girl recently had her tail amputated before returning to Tree House. As it turns out, Miss Spindrift had been attacking her own tail whenever it moved—a behavior linked to feline hyperesthesia and chronic pain from a bone abnormality in her hip. 🦴 Even after surgery, she continued to fixate on what remained, so her loving adopter—wanting the best for her—brought her back to us for extra care.

Now in foster care, Lime Spindrift is working with our team to find calm and comfort as she learns to make peace with her tail. Her care plan includes behavioral therapy to help redirect her attention and medical management to ease her chronic pain. 💚

Once Lime Spindrift settles into a routine that helps her feel her best (tail and all!), she’ll be ready to meet her future family.

Meet Barbie, Polly, and Bratz — three tiny troublemakers found by a Good Samaritan in the Austin neighborhood and brought to Tree House earlier this month. Their foster mom says they’re “full of energy, playing, running, and wrestling at all times.” 💨🐾

They’re growing fast and will be ready for adoption soon — perhaps just in time for a little Halloween fun.✨
Some of you may have met Shiva in our Cat Cafe, wh Some of you may have met Shiva in our Cat Cafe, where we care for cats with feline leukemia virus (FeLV+). 💚 Because FeLV weakens the immune system, Shiva needs a little extra attention when it comes to her health. Recently, she developed pneumonia, but she’s now recovering in a loving foster home.

Her foster shares that Shiva is the sweetest girl who always asks for affection. If you stop petting her too soon, she’ll gently place her paw on your hand—as if to say, “Don’t stop yet!” 😩

Once Shiva is fully recovered, she’ll be ready to find her next chapter—and her adoptive family. Stay tuned for updates on this special girl. 💕

Mashumaro's adoption day came right before her first anniversary with us. 🙌 Now renamed Milkshake, she's thriving in a cozy, loving home with an adopter who endlessly cherishes her.

Milkshake used to be a stray, and we learned she’s both deaf and has limited vision, but this girl is incredibly sharp and overflowing with love! 💖 Despite these challenges, she’s embraced her new world with heart and courage, even if she was a little timid after leaving Tree House.

Now two months later, she’s fully settled in and has become their adopter’s shadow—following from room to room and always by their side. 😽 When she's not nudging them for head scratches, Milkshake loves to perch by her favorite window and watch birds come and go. 🐦

Milkshake’s journey has been as sweet as ice cream, and the best is yet to come. 🍦 Here’s to many more happy moments ahead—sip, sip, hooray for Milkshake! 🥤🎊
Erickson was found wandering near the Harlem Blue Erickson was found wandering near the Harlem Blue Line stop 🚃 in Norwood Park, her fur dirty and dull — a sign she may not have been getting enough food or water to keep herself clean. Despite her finder’s best efforts to locate her family, Erickson became a Tree House cat.

Now in our care, Erickson was ready for a new beginning. But some happy endings take a few extra chapters. Erickson has struggled to feel comfortable meeting new people at the shelter, which has made it harder for her to connect with adopters. Over time, though, she’s begun to open up to our team—especially when there’s a Churu treat involved. 🐱💛

Recently, Erickson went to a foster home where she can continue learning to trust and feel safe. Fingers crossed that this sweet girl keeps blossoming and will soon be ready for adoption! 🤞

At 17 years old, Cous Cous is the oldest cat curre At 17 years old, Cous Cous is the oldest cat currently in our care. 💗

This past summer, she was found as a stray in Buffalo Grove—friendly, very thin, and unfamiliar to the neighbors around her. Her microchip traced back to Tree House, where she was initially registered in 2011. After all these years, we were more than happy to welcome her back into our care.

Following a ten-day stray hold, Cous Cous officially rejoined the Tree House family. 🌳🏠️

Cous Cous is managing a few medical concerns related to her urinary, thyroid, and dental health. Don’t let her RBF fool you, though—she’s a total “Velcro cat.” 🥺

She’s now living in a loving foster home. According to her foster family (two humans, a hamster, and a snake), Cous Cous spends each night curled up in bed with one of the humans and her days napping in the sun or on any available lap. She’s also no stranger to unorthodox nap spots—the sink, the bathtub, and even the trash can! Cous Cous may also be the first kitty of ours who is an artist… Just swipe to the end! 🧑‍🎨

What’s next for Cous Cous? Our team is focused on managing her ongoing health needs and ensuring she stays comfortable and loved. For a cat in her position, the next chapter could mean foster hospice or adoption. No matter what, one thing is sure: Cous Cous will be surrounded by people who love her.
