We specialize in working with sick, injured, abused and neglected stray cats because they are the voiceless and the forgotten and they comprise the largest number of animals being killed at shelters across the country. Until they arrive here, they have few, if any, options for a good life. This is what makes our mission unique and why we desperately need you to become a member today.

Founded in 1971 as one of the first cageless, no-kill shelters, we have since expanded and enhanced our services to become the premier shelter in the country specializing in the care of sick, injured, abused and neglected stray cats. To date we have found homes for nearly 15,000 animals. In addition, we offer many other valuable programs, including our Low-cost Spay/Neuter Program, Feral Friends TNR Program, Pet Loss Grief Support Group, Humane Investigations Team, Youth Volunteer Program, Animal-Assisted Therapy, Behavior Hotline, Pet Food Pantry, and Education Outreach Program. We are committed to finding every healthy and treatable animal a home, and we are leading a collaborative effort with other animal welfare organizations to create a no-kill nation.

Athena’s story, like so many other critically injured cats that came to us for help, is an inspiring one. This brave kitty underwent spinal surgery and is currently receiving physical therapy. Even though she still doesn’t have full use of her legs, she is putting some weight on them again and can usually be found scooting around our first floor, happily chasing other cats who suffer from paralysis like Cythia and Chipotle.

You Can Help Tree House Build a No-Kill Nation!

Tree House was founded to stop the killing of homeless animals and we won’t quit until every animal finds the home they deserve. Every day, we go to great lengths to work towards this goal, but we cannot do it without your support. Won’t you become a member today and be a part of the no-kill solution?

Every year, 3-4 million animals are euthanized in the United States . In 2007, nearly 19,000 homeless animals were killed in Chicago alone and 61% of them were cats. Although this represents a significant decrease over the past decade, there is still so much to do. We need your help.

Your membership donation is essential if we are to continue our important work. As a member of the Tree House family you can be proud of supporting an innovative shelter that goes above and beyond to care for sick, injured, abused and neglected stray cats and kittens– these animals represent the highest percentage of animals killed at shelters all over the country. With your donation we can save even more of them.
