ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS
  • A photo I.D.
  • A second I.D. with current address and phone number (we recommend a phone bill).
  • If you rent, we need your landlord's name and phone number, or a copy of your lease stating that you are allowed to have cats.
  • All children under 12 in the household are required to be present for the entire adoption process.

People often ask us why we take our adoption process so seriously. The answer is simple - our goal is not to adopt out the highest number of cats, but to place each cat in a loving home where he or she will live for his or her entire life. Our adoption counselors work very hard to match each potential adopter with the cat who will best fit into his or her lifestyle. We feel that working hard to make the perfect feline/human match gives our wonderful cats a better chance of finding a permanent, loving home.

Tree House provides a cageless, home-like environment for the many shelter residents. After initial examination and treatment in the clinic, a new arrival is transferred to one of the Admission and Isolation Units in the lower level. Next, the newcomer is introduced to the general population by means of spacious enclosures.

Trained adoption counselors interview prospective adopters to understand their needs, and then adopters are escorted to the Adoption Floor to choose their future friend. Adopters are encouraged to take as much time as they need to find a cat. All adoption applications stay on file for three months so please don't feel that you need to rush to choose a companion cat right away.

Your adoption fee of $85 covers the cost of one cat's care ($150 for two cats) at Tree House including: spay or neuter, deworming, flea treatment, FIV and FeLV testing, AVID microchip, veterinary examination, and all necessary vaccinations. We also give a 30-day health guarantee on all of our adoptions.

Even when cats leave Tree House, they are considered part of the Tree House family for the rest of their lives.  We make follow up calls on all of the adoptions, and are available to answer any questions from the adopter. We expect a Tree House adopter to provide a committed and loving home for the duration of the cat's life. If you experience difficulties with your Tree House cat you can ALWAYS contact us for behavior counseling and general feline care advice. If you are no longer able to provide care for your Tree House cat, we will accept him or her back into the Tree House family, regardless of reason.

This Week's Featured Cats

Uptown - Sadie

Eleven-year old Sadie is a beautiful, affectionate girl. She was recently returned after many years adoption because she was having a hard time adjusting to her adopter’s new home. Sadie clearly misses having a person of her own; she frequently greets people at the door and mews pitifully at them until she gets attention. She loves playing and enjoys being held.

Between her sweet disposition, deep blue eyes and gentle requests for attention it is hard to resist this girl. Sadie accepts the other cats on the floor but wouldn’t mind being an only cat. Sadie does have hyperthyroid for which she receives a pill twice a day. Don’t let one little pill deter you from considering her, she is far too perfect.

Bucktown - Grayson

You may recognize handsome 5 year old Grayson from our Tree House Calendar; he is Mr. March! Although he is on the shy side, we have seen him come quite a long way in his time here. Grayson has lived in the shelter for 5 years! He loves to play with the cat charmer and chases the laser pointer with vigor each time it comes out.

Playing is a huge step for some of our shyer residents, so we would like anyone who adopts Grayson to continue this in the home. Our handsome boy was recently transitioned to a wet-food only diet for weight management. Another great reason to keep him exercising and playing! With some patience and TLC, Grayson will surely prove to be a wonderful companion.

Pet Finder Bios
Petfinder.com has generously partnered with Tree House to provide bios and photographs of most of our available cats. These cats do change frequently, as they are constantly being adopted.
