Since 1971, our cageless, no-kill shelter has been fulfilling a mission to help cats that are most in need--those that are sick, injured, abused and neglected. We provide dependable housing and veterinary care for our feline residents and give them the necessary attention they deserve. With a small staff at Tree House, volunteers are an essential part of our team and crucial to the success of our mission. Whether you’re cleaning, socializing, fundraising or assisting at an outreach event, you will be enhancing the lives of our cats and in turn improving our community. There’s plenty to be done and we can only do it with your involvement. This is why YOU will make a difference as a Tree House volunteer!
To become a Tree House volunteer, simply check out our volunteer opportunities below and email the job you are interested in. Once your email is sent, you will receive information on the next steps to become a Tree House volunteer. Please look for a response in about a week's time.
In general, we ask that volunteers commit a minimum of six hours per month. However, that requirement varies based on the program in which you are involved. Volunteers must be 16 years of age to volunteer on their own. Volunteers under 16 years old may also volunteer with the supervision of a parent or guardian.
As a volunteer, you will receive monthly updates from Tree House via our Volunteer Newsletter and invitations to our special events. You will also be invited to occasional volunteer Social Nights, where you can meet and mingle with other volunteers.
Housing 200 cats is a huge responsibility, which makes it challenging to spend quality time with each and every one of them. Like many nonprofit organizations, volunteers are an integral part of Tree House Humane Society, and we rely heavily on their support and hard work. We need dedicated volunteers each day who would like to help feed, nurture, pet, groom, socialize and take good care of our wonderful feline friends.
We look forward to working with you soon!

Volunteer Opportunities
There are many different jobs to choose from and you are more than welcome to volunteer for multiple opportunities, but you don't need to send multiple emails. Just indicate your job preferences in the email you do send. (Email links are after each description)
Caregivers spend dedicated time helping to provide daily care to our cats and to maintain their living quarters. Duties include changing litter pans, sweeping and mopping, cleaning cages, doing laundry and feeding the cats. The work is very rewarding because of the direct contact with the cats. You will also work with individual cats by assisting with grooming, helping them exercise with play therapy, monitoring their health and simply giving affection. These activities will not only offer the cats more rewarding lives while living in the shelter, it will also help some of them become better prepared for adoption. I would like to be a Volunteer Caregiver!
Adoption Counselors have the rewarding job of placing our cats into new homes. As a volunteer adoption counselor, you will interview and assist potential adopters by introducing them to the right cat or cats for their household. You will also help complete the entire adoption process, and give tours of the shelter to our visitors. I would like to be a Volunteer Adoption Counselor!
Reception volunteers answer phones and the front door, assist our Pet Food Pantry clients and perform other clerical tasks. Volunteering as a receptionist is a great way to increase your knowledge about Tree House’s programs and policies. I would like to be a Volunteer Receptionist!
Development volunteers help with data entry, distributing flyers, filling merchandise orders and preparing mailings. They also solicit raffle and silent auction donations, fundraise and cultivate new and existing donors. I would like to be a Development Volunteer!
Special Event volunteers help with our off-site events, street fairs and signature events (like the Stray Cat Strut) by selling merchandise, answering questions and passing out educational materials. I would like to be a Special Event Volunteer!

Clinic Assistant volunteers help promote our cats’ health and well-being by administering fluids and medications and assisting with daily clinic duties. This is a great opportunity for a person interested in veterinary medicine, with experience in a vet hospital or someone who has experience giving feline companion animals medication and medical care. I would like to be a Volunteer Clinic Assistant!
Animal-Assisted Therapy volunteers bring the magic of the human/animal bond to institutionalized elderly, handicapped and other specialized populations. Therapeutic visits take place weekly and require skills in handling animals, communication, and understanding the needs of the elderly. I would like to be an Animal-Assisted Therapy Volunteer!
Foster Parents provide temporary housing to Tree House cats, including kittens, adoption-age adults, and cats with special medical needs. This is a great opportunity for someone who has an extra room in their home or who is unable to have a permanent companion animal of their own. I would like to be a Volunteer Foster Parent!
Other opportunities are available such as K-12 humane educators and TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) volunteers. We’re also in need of people with skills in computer networking, photography, graphic and web design, construction, grant writing, TNR counseling and trapping. If you possess a skill that hasn’t been mentioned and think we could benefit from your expertise, let us know and volunteer today! I would like to volunteer for one of these Other Opportunities! (please specify)
