Programs at Tree House

In order to accomplish our mission of promoting the inherent value of every animal and educating the public about proper and responsible animal care, Tree House offers a variety of community programs. For example, our volunteer-driven Animal-Assisted Therapy program visits hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers to allow patients to understand the positive influence a pet can have on their demeanor and our Pet Food Pantry offers donated cat and dog food, litter, and pet supplies to low income families who would otherwise not be able to afford an animal companion. Over the past three decades, Tree House has built a national reputation for offering informative and educational brochures regarding feline and canine behavior and care, and we publish an educational 16-page newsletter twice a year, as well as an annual Year in Review publication. Our Socialization Program works with feral cats to acclimate them to people, other cats, and domestic life.

The Tree House Education Outreach Program teaches children and adults alike the proper care and treatment of animals, lessons on improving behavior, and the benefits of a human/animal relationship. We also offer people the ability to call our Behavioral Hotline (773-784-5488, ext. 228) to get answers and advice about health and behavior issues regarding their pets. Our behaviorists work with callers to solve litterbox, scratching and chewing issues with callers.

Additionally, our staff and volunteers regularly make media appearances to promote the importance of spaying and neutering, adoptions, and the proper care of companion animals. Last year, Tree House hosted its own television show on Chicago's Cable Access Network (left). The program displayed techniques for clipping nails, pilling and grooming cats, and our Tree House hosts fielded questions from callers on a variety of subjects. We also made several appearances on Steve Dale's "Pet Central" show on WGN-Radio (right), and we were featured twice on segments of Animal Planet.
